Hi all I am new to this SEO. I have just 7 months experience in this. I am looking for some great ideas from you. I am very happy to see Experts here. I am searching for a great site like this for around a month..

I have one doubt..

About Directory Submission,Affliate programs and Link Building

Which one is better to increase business to our website(not just traffic)

Apart from this Directory submission,Affliate programs and Link Building is there any other ways to promote our business online.

I know from personal experience that links dont really bring traffic but they are need for search rank which does bring sales. I also have tried pay per click on google and yahoo and went broke without a single sale. I have tried the sites with pay per view without any luck. All my sale have come from searches people have done on various search engines but I too would like to hear from people who have had sales from other forms of advertising. Anyone have any suggestions for those of us who has basically no budget for advertising (as advertising budgets go)?

I too went "broke" when I first started with pay-per-click, I have since learned how to manage overture in a way that translates into inexpensive sales. Half of this strategy works with google also, but I no longer use google as I cannot control the other half.
The first thing that helped tremendously was being over specific with my word selection. For example, we sell baby shower items; using the term baby shower we spent $200 per day for one term and paid a lot per click. Using the term of a specific product, namely our top sellers we have few clicks per day, they are inexpensive as no one else is using them, and the people clicking are looking for exactly what you have and therefor are more likely to turn into a sale.

One of the cheapest (free) and probably most popular way to generate a residual of quality traffic to your website is to participate in a discussion forum such as this.

Over time, people will generally ask the same questions regarding the same topic. If you posted a reply that could be useful to someone, you could be recognized for being knowledgable in your specific field. And out of curiosity, some people will probably visit your website to see what you're selling online.

If the products or services you're selling is of value to this visitor, it could generate a sale for you. Remember, people do not generally buy what you're selling on a first visit, so it's important to be a continued supporter of these forums.

Plus, you will also learn from the experiences of others by continuing to participate in these forums. And yes, you could also become a customer for another forum member as a result of their contribution to this form. :-)

Happy Replying!

I also would like to add to those ideas above that submitting your site to Free Classifieds Ads is also an option to expose your site. They usually need to be renewed every 30 days.

Good Luck! ;)

I have never had much luck from classified add. All my sells have come from search engine traffic but I still need to move up in a big way under the term "gift basket". I will keep working at it.

If you pick your link partners and design your links carefully they will produce sales for you. The over-the-top example is Amazon, which started out by making linking deals with every imaginable site that might be visited by someone interested in buying a book.

Hi everybody!
I am also a newbie at this SEO stuff. I just completed an online SEO course (free) that is done completely with email. You work at your own pace and its staffed by volunteers. Very educational. I like to think that I'm savvy with a computer but there were things I found facinating. And one of the sections was using good links for your website. And thats why I'm here. I hope you won't mind me posting allot of questions.

Welcome Yogi!

If you feel that this course would benefit other new webmasters please post a link to the site where you found the course. Then other new webmasters that read this thread can easily find the educational information that you found.

That is what these forums are for: webmasters helping webmasters! :D

From your name, I'm going to assume you're a travel agent and probably have some local or regional customers.

To generate business on your site you have to promote it in the real world as well as the virtual one.

I am constantly amazed by the number of furniture stores, car dealers, butchers, bakers and candlestick makers who don't put their URLs on business cards, fliers and newspaper ads -- or put them in small, illegible type at the bottom of magazine ads and billboards.

For best results, don't just put your web address on all your promotions, use a little space to give people a reason to log onto to your site ... something like:

I am new here too, and have read much about link exchanging and not just with anyone, but doing it with sites which relate to your own. I read that you could choose to link exchange with anyone you want, but it may hurt your site in the long run, the same way that using text unrelated to your products would do no good. I also read that creating a blog that directly relates to your product is a good way to generate traffic to your site and also a good way to open up other places to advertise (blog directories) which is becoming very big or has already been big and i'm just starting to get into it. I am looking forward to gaining from being a part of this forum and since this is my first post, HI everyone!!!:)

It's amazing how many people take so long to understand what you've gotten right away -- linking, search engines, advertising, blogs, even business cards and word of mouth are all just part of the equation.

If you want to maximize the income potential of your site you need all of it, as much of it as you can get.

It's called integrated marketing and many people think they can get away with only working one part of it ... unless they're selling a product millions of people have to have (like Windows  ) they're wrong.

Is that there is so much webmaster helping webmaster, end user helping end user, and just plain people helping people going on.

For example, I found more information about caring for my cats who have chronic renal failure and diabetes on the Web than I could have found in two years of traveling and interviewing vets. Some of the information is from vets, or vetinary hospitals. Other information is from cat lovers who've been through the same trauma. Obsiously, it's true you can't trust everything you read on the web -- or anywhere else -- but I've found that if you filter what people are saying through common sense you can pretty easily separate the real from the hype.

This "helping aspect" is one of the things that makes linking so very important to the web. The search engines will take you to entry portals for information on things like feline diabetes, but it's the links on those pages that enable you to drill down and get the information you need.

For example, I almost lost a cat to an allergic reaction to synthetic human insulin, which is what is universally prescribed for cats and dogs. But because I had seen a link to "alternative insulin" on a cat diabetes site, I was able to track down some beef insulin at a specialty compounding pharmacy in Texas and he did fine on it.

But his life was saved by linking. I never would have found "beef insulin" or "alternative insulin" by Googling because, not knowing they existed (many vets don't it either, I was to discover) I never would have searched for them.
