We've received a few emails from users who disagree with our article on Three Way Linking at http://linkpartners.com/article_three_way_linking.html. Some think our article is restrictive and based on "unqualified claims". We stand by the article .. we think 3 way linking is akin to gamesmanship and an attempt to unfairly manipulate search engine rankings.
What's your thougths on our three way linking? If you have disagreements, thats ok.. feel free to post them here. We respect disagreement and would like to hear from users why you think three way linking is acceptable, or unacceptable. If you have not read it yet, the article is here: http://linkpartners.com/article_three_way_linking.html

three way linking is almost always a scam.
I recently got an email from another webmaster which had words to the effect of:
"You link from your PR6 site to my site A and ill give you a link from my site B which has a PR 1 and is completely unrelated to your site, is a directory or link farm, is blocking search engines from crawling it, has nofollows on the links, is a subdomain, is MFA, and/or has absolutely no value to any user ever!"
Ok, I added the whole last half of that quote, but 95% of the time that's what is really going on.
Ha... Yeah right.

I've read the article above and I like it! ;-)
Yet, I'm a strong supporter of 3 ways links. Before you attempt to engage in this controversial activity, I would like to suggest the following strategy.
1.) If your primary target website is selling "used widgets", then create 2 other websites with two different hosting companies which are centered around used widgets. These websites must contain relevant content related to used widgets or else it's just another dummie site.
2.) Build the Pagerank and link popularity of these websites by requesting regular links exchanges from websites which will compliment your used widgets websites. Once you wondered into the realm of unrelated websites, you risk jeopardizing the health of your websites. So stay on a straight path if you want to be look upon favorably by Google and other search engines.
3.) Once you feel that you've reached your targeted Pagerank and search engine rankings in Google and others, start requesting 3 ways links from websites of SIMILAR quality and content.
I hope this helps and please feel free to change it according to your needs.

Yes, three-way linking is not per se a Google no-no. The scenario described above is perfect valid, because all the sites are relevent and they all have different complementary content.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of three-way linking schemes promoted on the web are simply link farms with a few extra bells and whistles and will give you links that turn off both customers and SEs.
