According to u what are the major benefits of directory submission.Does directory submission helps in improving page rank and alexa rank of website.

I think that the benefits of directory submission are limited because there are few free high authority ones,
and some of them require reciprocal links. Unless they have good PR and are one way I wouldn't bother.
It is nice to have a good Alexa rank but I don't think it really means anything.

Do you mean that your submissions alone (to high PR directories) have caused your site to rank higher? If so that is really interesting, could you provide some detail please? Like how many links did you actually get, what was the PR of the directories, and what was the actual affect on your ranking?

I would argue the benefits of "submission" as submitting is not the same as actually getting a link - just because you submit doesn't mean it will be accepted.
Even if it is, it can take weeks or months before your link appears (especially with free directories) and that isn't going to help get a site indexed.
Submitting to directories doesn't guarantee that your site will move up in SERPs, it may help but the value of the link depends on the value of the directories in the view of the SE's.
I can only speak for my own site, but I don't get much traffic from the directories where I do have links.

Directory is collection of database which i sued by the people like telephone directory, similarly on the web there are some web directories which are allowing people to submit their website information and they keep it for the visitors. DMOZ is the worlds best web directories and all search engine respect that directory. Submitting website on good and reputed directories definitely improve website ranking in SERPs and also help to get the higher Page Rank. If someone has ranking in DMOZ then their websites are performing better in SERPs.

I only submit to few good directories. They are still working to give you quality backlinks and help you rank in search results ranking.
