When I ask for a link exchange, Linksmanager automatically places the link on my site but I don't even know if the site wants to link with me. I want to choose the links on my pages that do not reciprocate. I know the recip rate should not be 100% but I want to choose the nonreciprocal links on my pages. I wonder if the sites link can be placed on my site after I get a response to my request. If the answer is no then I don't want the link. The sites that I link to that do not reciprocate are chosen with a purpose and are not there just because they wouldn't link to me. Can anyone clue me in as to how this works? I'm sorry for my ignorance but this service is new to me. I started with a 60 day trial and stupidly requested links with a bunch of sites that did not link back, now I have a bunch of nonreciprocal links on my site that I do not want.
If I can't get it fixed I think I'm going to bail. Any thoughts?

Chris,

Welcome to the LinkPartners Forum. This topic has been in discussion before in another thread here:

Why are LinkPartners Sites so Slow to Reciprocate? http://forums.linkpartners.com/showthread.php?t=10

I would be happy to address the other concerns in your message.

When I ask for a link exchange, Linksmanager automatically places the link on my site but I don't even know if the site wants to link with me.

You are talking about the links that you exchange via the Search for LinkPartners utility in your LinksManager account.

We place the link on your site first because you are initiating the exchange which means you have already reviewed and thought this site would be beneficial to your visitor.

Please note that this is only one way to exchange links. You should also be looking on the Internet in other directories besides LinkPartners and inviting them to link with you.

I always recommend people visit their direct competitors and see who they are linking with as well and then contact them. We have a templated email available in our How To Start A Successful Link Swap Campaign here: http://www.linksmanager.com/startswapping.html

I want to choose the links on my pages that do not reciprocate. I know the recip rate should not be 100% but I want to choose the nonreciprocal links on my pages.

It does take time for the other site to respond.

Not everyone in LinkPartners is a LinksManager member and some people do all their linking manually still. Additionally every webmaster responds within a different amount of time. Some webmasters are faster than others. I recommend allowing them at least a month to respond. Then I recommend trying another form of contact to ask the webmaster about a link exchange.

I wonder if the sites link can be placed on my site after I get a response to my request. If the answer is no then I don't want the link. The sites that I link to that do not reciprocate are chosen with a purpose and are not there just because they wouldn't link to me.

One automated feature of the system is that if the other site 'declines' your link swap invitation for any reason their link would automatically be temporarily removed from your links pages. This link would show up with a gray background on your active links list.

Some users have went into their account after asking for a LinkPartners Swap and used the 'Temporarily Remove This Link From the Links Pages' option to "hide" the link. But then if the other site is looking for their link they will not find it and may not put your link on either.

If everyone has to put the other link on first before anyone moves then all link exchanges would be a stalemate. Every site in your link exchange should be chosed for a purpose and not based solely on whether they will reciprocate.

I hope this information is helpful in addressing your concerns.

I received request from others who initiate a link exchange with me. I will respond by posted their link on my site. They seldom post my link on their site, even when they initiate the exchange. Is their a way with Link Manager that requires someone requesting a link exchange to post my link on their site first to show good faith?

Link exchange is a tedious task and something that we have to stay on top of. I just check my links once or twice a month and contact webmasters on my own using email and if I get no response after a month or so then I decide whether to leave them on or take them off.

This is a never ending process and is the nature of the business.

Thank you Connie this is a great statement. So many people get so wrapped up in thinking that every site must reciprocate to be a good link. More important than reciprocation is relevance. If the site is beneficial to your end user we always recommend keeping the swap.

Having a directory of highly relevant resources will demonstrate to visitors that you are the top professional in your business and provide many other valuable resources to your users than just your product/service.

Not everyone will reciprocate. Search Engines expect this. 100% reciprocation looks like gamesmanship to the SE's and can have the wrong end result.

Just my thoughts,

In reciprocal link exchange you need to check your links one in every fifteen days because there are some webmasters who will remove your link after some time. Once your link removed from other site your website power automatically goes down.
