I have a local, or more accurately regional, furniture and appliance business. I don't do shipping or sell on the Web. The sole function of the site is to give people information about the products we offer, special sales, rebates and other things that might induce them to drive over and buy something.

Since we are located where the winters are long, cold and snowy, the site is especially important during that season because people don't like to drive 50 miles through snow and ice if they don't already know the store has what they're looking for.

Can anyone recommend a good linking strategy for this type of business?

Thanks.

Your linking strategy should probably be the same as for any website. Offer links that you think might be relevant to your visitors. This might be a directory of other local (or regional) businesses, sites with more information about your products (the manufacturers sites, maybe?), general furniture related sites (non-competitive, of course), and the like.

You want to get links that will:
1) bring people direclty from another site to your site via a link - probably the local business directory portion of your links, and
2) raise your standing in the search engines so that when your local customers "Google" you or your products, they find your site.

Remember the mantra - Add links that will be of interest to your visitors.
