 Hi all, just a little info on my site. I am a Realtor in Southern CA. I'm just getting re-started in real estate. I started linking not to long ago and was told if I did it in my spare time, I would get some decent rankings in one or two years.
Yippy! In 5 months I was on page 3 of msn search for some common search terms. I make it my business to talk to every Webmaster who would give me info. The first one told me, to check every link, make sure I was on their site. So I did and out of about 150 links, at least half didn't have me on there. So I emailed every one of them. Soon I was on all of them.
Here's the kick! One month later I found myself on page one of Google, MSN & a couple month later Yahoo!
I've learned allot since then. I moved to another County and had to change my domain name. I made the main one a pointer domain to the same site. Believe me, I was worried. Even so, that domain name was pr3 before I moved and now is pr5. The new one is ranked now also after only 3 months.
I must tell you, there are important things you must know and do.
Try to categorize (i.e.: by state)
Don't have more than 80 to 100 links on one page. The search engines only spider so many per page, and that may be to many, I was told by a Webmaster in Canada, only 60 to 80. He gets his clients ranked high in a very short amount of time.
Keywords in your Title!!!!! Very important (and sub-title also)
Great and helpful content, along with you keywords throughout. Web Crawlers read words, they don't read graphics. That's what I read in a info article on google webmasters info page. They might read Graphics, I’m still checking on that one, because I have at least 40 on my site.
Your link content should be to the point, helpful, with keywords, but logical and related, it all connects and the web crawlers pick up on that.
Don't give up, keep adjusting, changing, learning and most of all, keep seeking related link partners.
FYI: When you link with someone, look at their links and go to those sites and see if they will link with you. There are thousands of them.
