Mack,

That wouldn't happen to be a link to a site you own would it?

Keep in mind not all forum owners are willing to just provide a backlink to your site just because. On my sites I'd actually ban you for registering to link drop and there's plenty of webmasters out there who think the same.

Also, if you are looking for a backlink from a forum, make sure that they are not using no follow tags or your wasting your time.

Forums are a great way in link building. Some would let you participate in their forums and post signatures right after you register. Others would require you to post 10-20 posts before you can post signatures or backlinks to your site. You just have to check the forum rules before signing up to one so that you won't waste your time.

LOL I guess he did imply that. Some people post on forums solely for the back links though so I guess it is a waste of his time if the forum doesn't allow signatures.

Anyway, there are many popular forums that are not do follow yet because there are so many users on it, it's still worth your time to post your signature there. It won't give you any link juice but it still exposes your website to a great number of people who in turn just might give you good ol' natural organic traffic.

I agree. It comes down to link juice or traffic. Both are good ... for different reasons and purposes.

All of this link building stuff makes my head hurt. All I want to do is make my fireglassonline.com the best it can be and rank #1 for wood stove and fireplace glass.

I recentrly started working at bocanetworks.com doing SEO and am working on getting backlinks. You talk about getting quality links. But, where do I find them? Why does Google consider automatic links artificial? How can a startup website build up links out of thin air? isn't that also artificial? No one knows who the startup website is when is starts, and a month later 10,000 other sites are linking to it.

Backlinks alone will never do this for you. If you think your head hurts now, start diving into the wonderful world of SEO and report back to us later ;)

Forum posting is best way to build quality backlinks and increase the traffic of your website.

How much of your traffic can be traced to forum links? Forum links account for less than 1/2 of 1% for all my sites combined.

Hi Friends,

5. Use Forums to participate in discussion . Search those forum that is search friendly and permit to leave the message with signature link. as example - ...

That's a very limited niche forum to make a useful comment on, unless you happen to be one of those unfortunate people concerned.

I honestly can't see forum posting as a way of building traffic.I do sometimes look at the websites of others who post on them, but that it is only out of interest to see if I can learn something or to see if the poster puts into operation the suggestion they have made, it isn't useful traffic for them, and I would imagine that others do the same.
We all know that many of the postings are meaningless and only there for links, but in amongst those there are some useful nuggets of information, and also sometimes there is some healthy debating going on. To be honest I first looked at forum posting purely from the point of view of link building, but then found I actually liked it:)
